The entire iron ore production chain now relies on automation technology that has made Samarco's mining operations much more efficient and faster, drastically reducing the time required to carry out this process.

The company Samarco revealed, last Tuesday (26/04), about its new automation technology used in the iron ore production chain to be able to verify the existence of silica in a much faster and more efficient way, guaranteeing thus even more innovation and efficiency possible within the company's operations in the mining sector in Brazil over the coming months. 

Verification of silica present in iron production is now the basis of an automation technology in the company's mining operations

The step of verifying the existence of silica within the mixture carried out in the production of iron ore is one of the most important tasks for the final quality of the product, but it needs to have great assertiveness for a better efficiency. Thus, the company Samarco announced a new automation technology that is already being used in the iron beneficiation processes in the company's mining operations in Brazil, as a way to speed up the process and guarantee more quality.

Thus, this step is now being carried out using this automation technology by Samarco's physical-chemical laboratory, in the Germano Complex, in Mariana (MG) and the equipment used for the procedure is a Multifunctional Particle Analyzer (AMP), developed in partnership with the company IVTEK. In this way, the company was able to reduce the operation time in the iron production chain from 2 hours to 20 minutes, in addition to having much greater control with the help of technology to guarantee the final quality of the product. 

The company commented that this is not just a strategy to guarantee more productivity, but mainly aims at delivering quality to customers after iron processing. In a note, Samarco stated: “The analyzes carried out in an automated way show, with greater speed and precision, the best configuration of the process steps, as well as the ideal amount and how these inputs should be applied. This procedure also results in more efficient pellet production. The initiative is in line with Samarco's cultural trait of innovation”.

Use of automation technology to check silica in iron ore is another Samarco strategy for the Movimento pela Inovação initiative 

During the month of March 2022, Samarco announced its newest innovation and technology project within its operations in the mining segment, the Movimento pela Inovação. Thus, the company has been adopting a series of measures and more efficient alternatives for its production chain and is increasingly seeking to guarantee more final quality in the product, linking this characteristic to a more agile and profitable production for the company. 

In this way, the project promotes a series of actions to support employees in understanding what innovation is for Samarco, as well as to facilitate the adoption of institutional practices that contribute to new solutions, including the new automation technology used in iron production. The removal of silica from the ore is one of the most important steps in the raw material production chain and this new technology has strongly contributed to a more efficient operation in the mining segment. 

Now, the company commented that it intends to continue with its efforts in the search for the automation of its mining operations, since the use of technology has been guaranteeing many more benefits within this process of beneficiation of ores throughout Brazil.
