The public hearing will be held for Antaq to receive contributions to the process of leasing the container terminal located in the Port of Santos, an essential step for the privatization of the Port of Santos throughout 2022
The National Waterway Transport Agency (Antaq) has extended the public hearing to receive contributions for the bidding for the lease of the container terminal located in the Port of Santos until May 31. This action was to be finalized last Tuesday, (19/04), but due to requests from companies such as Maersk, the deadline for the terminal concession process was postponed. However, this hearing is essential for the privatization of the Port of Santos, one of the main objectives of the body and the Ministry of Infrastructure for the year 2022.

Public hearing to receive contributions for the process of leasing a terminal at the Port of Santos
Antaq is increasingly invested in the privatization processes of Brazilian ports and, for that, certain port structures need to go through the leasing process first, as is the case of the STS 10 container terminal, located in the Port of Santos, which will go through the process and will be awarded to a private company as a way to encourage new investments in infrastructure for the port complex over the next few years.
Thus, the bidding process for the container terminal is not yet finalized and needs to go through new stages, but the agency is aiming to speed up these bureaucracies. Thus, on April 19, at 10 am, Antaq held public hearing 6/2022 (CLICK HERE TO WATCH IN FULL) to obtain contributions for the bidding of the STS 10 area, as a way of guaranteeing a more efficient continuity of the process and obtaining the collaboration of representatives of the port sector for the leasing of the port's container terminal.
Days after the hearing, the current Minister of Infrastructure, Marcelo Sampaio Cunha Filho, continues to hold meetings with Santos Port Authority, the port authority of Santos, during the morning of this Friday, (22/04). In his social networks, he made the following comment about his day with the representatives of the Port of Santos: “On the way to the largest port in Latin America, the Port of Santos. We are going to visit important terminals that will be leased by the Government of Brazil, STS 10 and STS 53, and move forward with the planning for privatization of this great asset, which will also take place this year”.
Leasing of the STS 10 container terminal will be essential to attract investment in the port and collaborate with the privatization process of the site
STS 10 is a container terminal located in the Saboó region and contains more than 600 thousand square meters of area, currently divided into 5 different areas, but the leasing process of the location will allow the entire STS 10 to be unified into a single container terminal in the future. In addition, it will have a layout in line with the world's major container terminals, expanding the port's capacity by over 1.9 million TEUs.
This is the largest auction ever held within the Port of Santos and involves investments of around R$ 3.29 billion, being essential for attracting new infrastructure plans for the site. Thus, works will be carried out to build a 1,200-meter pier, deepening dredging in the area of the berths, in addition to the construction of a yard of approximately 350,000 square meters in the area. As a result, the leasing of the STS 10 container terminal will be essential to attract new eyes to the Port of Santos and, consequently, contribute to the investors who will participate in the privatization process of the place this year.
